Active carbon filter
Purpose of use
Types of active carbon
-
Pelletized Activated Carbon
It has a high adsorption rate. It is mainly used for high concentration gas treatment.
-
Granular Active Carbon
It is used the most extensively as it retains a large surface area and when fixed and stationary, sees a small pressure drop while being capable of recovering the adsorbed substances relatively easily.
-
Activated Carbon powder
Inexpensive price, its quality is inferior to that of granular carbon, which causes an excessive pressure drop when used in a packed tower, leading to many limitations in usage.
Activated carbon adsorption process
- Stage where the adsorbate molecules move to the outer surface of the adsorbent.
- Stage where the adsorbate passes through the macropores and mesopores of the activated carbon.
- Stage where the diffused adsorbate combines with or fills the inner surface of the micropores.
